Online communities for business
On Wednesday 15 August 2007 Digital Harbour hosted an online communities for business seminar in the Innovation Building (which is also the home of AFTRS in Victoria).
The speakers were Amanda Gome, publisher of SmartCompany and adjunct professor, Business, RMIT University, Bruce Joy, CEO of VastPark, and Alfred Milgrom, principal of Zazz. Thanks to the speakers (and to the Digital Harbour staff) for allowing AFTRS to record and publish their talks.
Each spoke about their experiences of building and nurturing online communities to achieve business objectives. I found the presentations to be extremely interesting and of benefit to the work the AFTRS Centre for Screen Business is doing to build a community for screen business practitioners.
Amanda Gome - 15 minutes - 3.5mb MP3
Amanda has over two decades in business journalism and has interviewed almost every entrepreneur in the country. As a senior writer at BRW, her passion for encouraging entrepreneurs led her to founding and editing the emerging companies section. She is also an adjunct professor of business at RMIT University.
Bruce Joy - 16 minutes - 3.7mb MP3
VastPark is a Virtual World platform enabling anyone to easily create and run their own interactive Virtual World. Bruce Joy has a background in the convergent space of web, media, virtual worlds and advertising.
Alfred Milgrom - 16 minutes - 3.6mb MP3
Online store Zazz sells only one product in large quantities each day. Alfred Milgrom software developer and veteran of Australian IT, was founder of Melbourne House and Beam Software and then co-founder and managing director of Smarty Pants Publishing Pty Ltd.
The AFTRS Centre for Screen Business has also been busy improving its web 2.0 community services. For example, we’ve launched the Australian Screen Business Network in FaceBook, which is for anyone involved in creating, managing or financing screen content in Australia.
We’ve also built a CSB channel in YouTube to promote our online video business interview series The Knowledge. Samples are available on Youtube, but the complete series is only available here in the CSB blog.
